If youāre in Perth during the Australian Football League (AFL) season, a seat at one of the games at Optus Stadium is a must. Since it opened in 2018, it has not only won numerous architectural awards, but it has been the home for AFL games in Western Australia and quite rightly earned a reputation as āBest Stadiumā.
For those who are big on basketball, the RAC Arena is where you want to be. Located just a short walk from Holiday Inn Perth City Centre, the fantastic Arena is known for itās thrilling atmosphere during games and concerts alike.
A short drive away youāll find HBF Park. Home to the Perth Glory team, itās the place to be to cheer on your favourite soccer team and recently hosted the World Rugby SVNS and the Matilda’s 2024 Olympic Qualifiers.

Ivy & JackĀ is a great spot forĀ a pre or post game feed in PerthĀ City.Ā Theyāre open from 6:30 am āĀ late and offer a variety of specials including $18 lunch or $28 dinner specials, and Happy Hour from 5pm – 6pm.Ā If you canāt make it to the game, they have the footy will be screening live, including the pre-game action.Ā Ā
The CamfieldĀ
The CamfieldĀ prides itself as Australiaās largest pub, and itās conveniently located right next to Optus Stadium. Be sure to stop by early, as it will pack out with game goers and AFL fans watching on the big screens.Ā Ā
HOW TO GET TO THE GAME
Getting to Optus Stadium from Perth City is easy! There are a variety of transport optionsĀ to suit every traveller.Ā Ā
BusĀ
As an AFL ticket holder, yourĀ TransPerthĀ bus fare is included in your ticket! Special event buses are hosted on game day so you can get to Optus Stadium quickly, easily and for free. Our recommended bus route and directions are as follows:Ā Ā
- Upon exiting Holiday Inn Perth, turn left on Hay Street and walk towards William Street.Ā Ā
- At the William Street intersection turn right and walk towards St Georges Terrace.Ā Ā
- As you reach St GeorgesĀ Tce, turn slight right at St Georges Terrace to board the bus at stop 10116 (St GeorgesĀ TceĀ before William).Ā Ā
- The bus will arrive atĀ MatagarupĀ Bridge Bus Stands, from here is aĀ short walk across the bridge to Optus Stadium.Ā Ā
DriveĀ
Driving to Optus stadium from Holiday Inn Perth City Centre will take a minimum of 15 minutes. There is limited parking availability at Burswood, which is aĀ 5-10 minuteĀ walk from Optus Stadium. Burswood offers both free and paid parking options at various car parks.Ā Ā
Please drive responsibly. The legal blood alcohol limit in Australia is 0.05.Ā Ā
Taxi/UberĀ
If you do not wish to take public Transport, we recommend hailing a Taxi or ordering an Uber/Ola (ridesharing app). While rates will vary, during the off-period a taxi will cost ~$25 and an Uber ~$15. These prices are likely to change on AFL Game Day.Ā Ā
WalkĀ
Walking through Perth City to Optus Stadium is a great way to explore Perth if you have some time to spare. From Holiday Inn Perth City Centre, it will take 50 minutes to walk to Optus Stadium.Ā Ā

Can I take my own food and drink to Optus Stadium?Ā
Optus Stadium is a fully licensed venue which means that you can purchase both food and alcohol on arrival.Ā However,Ā if you would prefer to bring your own food you are welcome to.Ā Ā
You are not able to BYO alcohol or beverages in glass bottles. Plastic water bottles must be sealed on arrival.Ā Ā
WhatĀ elseĀ do I need to bring?Ā Ā
Sunscreen! Our top tip at the footy is to layer up on the SPF 50.Ā We also recommend bringing a jumper if youāre attending a night game as it can get chilly.Ā Ā
Try to avoid bringingĀ large bags, as theyĀ will need to be inspected upon entry which will take longer.Ā Ā Ā
I have young kids, is there aĀ parentāsĀ room?Ā
There is a parentās room on each level of the stadium with change tables, feeding rooms, toilets, and even aĀ television so you donāt miss the footy. We recommend asking a staff member where the closest parentās room is in relation to your seat.Ā Ā
When are the AFL Finals/ AFL Grand Final?Ā
The date of the AFL finals can change each year depending on the teams, however, you can find the fixtures here. The Grand Final will be played in Melbourne on 28th September 2024.
