Our Top Activities For Kid Friendly Fun In The City!
Elizabeth Quay Water Park
In the warmer months, the kids will love cooling down at Elizabeth Quay in the BHP Water Park. The interactive water park uses jets and lighting to create fun water choreography, perfect for little ones to splash around in. There’s another great park within walking distance, as well as a carousel for those not so warm days.
The best playgrounds in Perth can be found at Kings Park. Hop off the Perth Explorer tour (or alternate public transport) and just a short bus ride out of the city will land you in one of the largest inner-city parks in the world. With a multitude of playgrounds playing host to free electric BBQ’s, drinking fountains and public toilets, you have everything you need for a good day out with kids. From the Tree Top Walk, to Rio Tinto Naturescape and Synergy Parkland full of dinosaurs, you’ll find plenty to do. To see what else is on offer at Kings Park, check out our blog.
Captain Cook Cruises
Take to the water with a Captain Cook Cruise between Perth and Fremantle. If you’re in Perth for the week, why not enjoy the Bus, Lunch and Tram Tour to explore Fremantle a little longer. There is so much to do in Fremantle, from a wander across the Fremantle Cappuccino Strip, to exploring the Fremantle Prison or enjoying a cocktail (or mocktail) on the beach.
Rottnest Island is a must do when visiting Western Australia – and the best way to get there is with Sealink. Book a ferry with Sealink from Fremantle to Rottnest for a day trip to explore the amazing beaches and even see a quokka. For all our best Rotto tips, click here.
Northbridge Piazza Movies
Free, outdoor, kid friendly movies sound too good to be true right? Northbridge Piazza frequently host special movie nights for the kids with popcorn and bean bags to boot. Perfect spot to pack a picnic or enjoy some cheeky take away. It’ll feel like a huge treat!
Perth Mint Tour
One of our favourite places to send families is The Perth Mint. You might be thinking that’s not very exciting for kids, but you’ll be surprised how much they love it!
Kate from South West Mums took us up on the challenge, and here’s what she had to say:
I never thought the Perth Mint would be a family friendly place to visit – but do you know what – it was actually one of the highlights of our trip! It was so kid friendly too! Hubby and I really enjoyed learning about the history and interesting facts and the boys were mesmerised by the gold pour and were welcomed by our lovely tour guide.
The Perth Mint offer a “Kid’s Challenge” where they are given a question “scratch” sheet that they can answer as the tour unfolds. There are two separate age groups which made it really accessible for all ages. Once the tour concluded, the boys were presented with medals by our tour guide – they were so chuffed!
Yagan Square Play Space
Looking for somewhere to tire the kids out from their ice cream sugar rush? Yagan Square Play Space is located right on top of the building, just a few minutes from Jersey Jack Gelato. With different areas catering to each age, your kids will love the geological terrain and rock inspired formations.
Ivy & Jack
Top off a big day of exploring with a meal right in the heart of Perth City at Ivy & Jack. Kids Stay & Eat for Free for breakfast, lunch and dinner at our restaurant from a special kid’s menu which they’ll love!
“We loved eating at Ivy & Jack while we stayed at Holiday Inn® Perth City. It was so family friendly.
Nothing was too much trouble, the tables were big (so important with clumsy kids), the kids were given fantastic activity packs when we arrived, plus kids under 12 eat free if you’re staying at the hotel (conditions do apply). And my boys are pretty fussy but wolfed down their food.
Some of the delicious meals hubs and I ate included seafood marinara (which was amazing) and a delicious beef burger served on a milk bun with onion rings (washed down with a beer of course).
The boys feasted on spaghetti Bolognese and fish and chips. They loved the spaghetti so much they ordered it two nights in a row! We loved that the kids were served on colourful plastic plates with their own colourful cutlery too. It’s the little details.” – Kate
Offer: All kids under 12 years of age eat free when dining with an adult. Two kids eat free per one adult.
The Nostalgia Box
Enjoy a throwback to some of your favourite console games growing up when you visit The Nostalgia Box in Northbridge. They have games on display, as well as to play, from the 1970s through to 2000s in an interactive exhibit. The Nostalgia Box even has some great school holiday programs where you can build your own robot and more.
Perth’s fanciest movie theatre is also kid friendly! Treat yourself to a little luxury, sit back and relax to yet another children’s film. You can even enjoy a wine or two throughout the movie while the kids enjoy their award-winning popcorn.
Catch a game
Being in the city centre has its perks – one of which is being so close to amazing sporting games. Next time you’re in the city, why not see if there’s an event on at Perth Arena (4-5 minute walk away) or Optus Stadium (~15 minute bus). Ask our concierge to have a look at what’s on for you or check out the Perth Arena & Optus Stadium websites.
Live out your childhood dreams of being a mad scientist at Scitech, located in West Perth. Just a short CAT ride will transport you to another world. Explore the planetarium, expedition reef, or even experiment in a CSIRO Lab Workshop.
